My latest fabric collection is called the Mountaineers. I designed it in collaboration with de Stoffenkamer, a wonderful fabric store in Ghent. It’s their first capsule collection featuring hikers, backpackers and vintage tourists in the mountains. It was a fun project because I love the theme very, very much!
The four designs are in different organic cotton fabrics. French Terry Aquarel View ecru, French Terry Scenic Route grey blue, Tricot Hikers ecru and Cotton Mountain Scene rusty white. Also, a cool iron-on patch was added to the collection.
I drew new scenes and figures in ink to design the fabrics, but I also used images from previous projects. The 100 day project from a few years back proved to be a nice inspiration for me with abundant mountains and small villages to choose from. Both my brother and grandfather, admiring the scenic view through their lenses, feature on the blue grey French Terry. For the new scenes I drew four hikers and a badass rock climber in a Scottish inspired landscape.
Helena from de Stoffenkamer already sewed beautiful garments for her family and they absolutely look amazing!
